I have a number of nieces and nephews in the late Gen Y age group and creating cards for them can be a challenge. Quite often I’m giving cash or vouchers, so I am always thinking about fun creative ways to present their little spending spree.
The B.Y.O.P stamp set helped fill that gap for me. I just love it, suitable for so many occasions; all the sentiments are centred around giving cash or vouchers. Perfect!
When I saw the brick wall embossing folder in the new annual catalogue, I knew it was the missing piece of the puzzle. Coupled with B.Y.O.P and Gorgeous Grunge stamp sets, it would make a great addition to card making for late Gen Yers. I love the large square size of it too.
Here it is… my graffiti wall….
I embossed the stamps with black and white embossing powders onto silver foil paper. Then ran it through the embossing folder.
Inside was just a simple pouch to hold a gift card.
I discovered a few things while making this card
- Using the heat gun on this card stock will cause it to curl pretty drastically but don’t worry, it flattens out pretty easily too. Just make sure you use a strong adhesive, like Fast fuse or tear tape, to secure it.
- When stamping your versa mark, handle the stamps really carefully as they can slip pretty easily on the shiny foil surface;
- If you’re looking for a nice clean finish with your embossing powders, like the one you get on regular cardstock, be prepared for a painstaking clean up with a fine paintbrush! (Lucky for me, I was going for the grungy messy paint look, so the additional specks of loose powder fitted in well); and
- There is a right (and wrong) side to this embossing folder. You want to make sure you mortar is debossed and your bricks are out, so make sure you’re holding the embossing folder with the logos facing you!
Ask me how I know all of this?!! You should have seen my first attempt – lol!
Earlier in the year, I shared another cash giving idea. See here for more inspiration.
Until next time…
