CTC163

Sale-a-bration this year is awesome and with so many great items to choose from, it does makes choosing what to create with a little harder! But I couldn’t go past the Lots of Lavender stamp set this week. (After all, I did promise this one next!)

I took my inspiration from page 4 of the Sale-a-bration catalogue, with these great ideas.

Here is what I created.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Lots of Lavender

I started with the box. It’s been a while since making a gift box and the idea of changing it up a little popped into my head. Here I have teamed up Painted With Love Specialty designer series paper with Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate. I made the box myself… I’m sure there is a template out there somewhere, but this is why I love papercrafting, it ties in beautifully with my graphic design skills. I just make these things myself – sketch it out first, work out my measurements and cut my own template. The design industry is very digital orientated now, which is great, it just means I very rarely get to make mock-ups anymore, hence this… papercrafting, my other love.

So I started by creating a basic oblong tube shape with the printed acetate. Then made a top and bottom from the DSP, kind of like making a box and cutting it in half and sticking it to the ends of the acetate to tube.

I made the bottom shorter than the top as I knew I wanted to add decorative elements to the bottom. I didn’t want them to start to high. I stamped the Lavender in Fresh Fig ink and coloured it using markers in Wisteria Wonder and Perfect Plum plus a little Pear Pizzazz for the leaves. I coloured the ribbon in Calypso Coral to contrast with the purple tones which coordinates with the DSP.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Lots of Lavender

I wrapped some Whisper White Organza ribbon around the bottom edge and topped that with some Sweet Sugarplum tinsel twine. Tucking in the lavender behind the organza bow. I filled the box (for now) with that fabulous Ready Shreddie. OMG… you get sooooo much in one pack, it goes such a long way!

As I sat back and admired my handy work, I decided it really needed a matching card. So I went with the card design featured below the box that initially sparked my interest.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Lots of Lavender

I started with some Shimmery White cardstock and water coloured a background with some Sweet Sugarplum ink and aqua painters. Once dry, I adhered this to a panel of more of that lovely Painted With Love specialty DSP. Then adhere this onto a cardbase in Fresh Fig.

I stamped another bunch of lavender and coloured this similarly to the box so that they match. I adhered this over the top of some of that lovely White Organza ribbon from the Petal Passion suite. Adding a gold tassle, from the Eastern Palace suite, tied with a little more of the Sweet Sugarplum tinsel. The sentiment is from the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set, stamped in Fresh Fig and punched with the Classic label punch.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Lots of Lavender

These were really fun to make and I was pretty happy with how they turned out. Next up in the hop is Peta Stephen.

Colour INKspiration – CI26

colourinkspiration-banner

What a colour combination we have for you this week here at Colour INKspiration. If you have joined me from Elizabeth, welcome, I hope you have been enjoying the inspiration so far.

If you are starting here, we have a cool colour palette this time. (Pardon the pun – LOL!). When I first looked at this colour combination, I liked it straight away, but new it would have me thinking. This challenge we are playing with greens…. Tranquil Tide, Bermuda Bay, Emerald Envy and Sahara sand.

CI26-240117

What I like about these kinds of colour combinations is they are different shades of the same hue essentially. This allows you to create some really interesting effects. It also allows you to do what I have done here … take something that could potentially be really busy and make it easier on the eyes. Check out my party hat…

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Party Hat Birthday

I just loved the sample in the Occasions catalogue and I really just wanted to make something similar.

And so I did.

And I’m really glad I did because it was just fun. Fun to create and fun to make these colours work as I think they lend themselves to cards for our “Men-folk”. So I gave the Party Hat Birthday bundle a boy look.

I love how you can stamp a Party Hat flat or you can use one of the dies in the set to cut out the elements which you can use for a 3D effect or on another project altogether. I also love this new banner for sentiments. Luuurve that flowing flag look.

RosePacker18-09e

Here I stamped my first layer in Tranquil Tide, it’s the one with all the little elements… streamers, lollies and dots. Next is Emerald Envy, here you can see Bows, Stars, Cakes, presents, ice creams, lolly pops and other yummy stuff. Last is Bermuda Bay, these are the raised elements… presents, cupcakes and hats.

I used my Stamparatus to make lining up these three stamps easy. When using my Stamparatus, I find myself either rotating it so that one leaf is at the bottom and one at the side, or I just utilise the space at the bottom of the stamping plate like this…

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stamparatus

Yes, my magnets have broken… waaa… but now I have four to work with… Yay! Moving on…

This is because closer to the hinges, sometimes the stamps don’t quite reach down far enough to catch all the paper. It’s just a slight limitation with the manufacturing process BUT not really a problem at all. You don’t have to use it with one hinge at the top anyway, afterall the stamping plate is square. So to clear the space completely, just use the other end! And if you can work like me, with a rotation, try stamping like this….

For this particular stamp set, working with the stamps rotated didn’t hamper my ability to fit them together. I think as long as the outside lines of the shape is there, the inside can look however it is stamped!

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Party Hat Birthday

I finished off my Party Hat with one of the clear Faceted Gems, which I coloured with my dark Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blend marker. I love how you can coordinate all your Rhinestones, Pearls, Gems and other embellishments by colouring them with Blends.

Next up in the hop, is the talented Jacque Williams.

CTC162 – Sweet Soiree

CTC-BlogBanner

This week at Caseing The Catty we are focusing on the Sweet Soiree suite in the Occasions catalogue. I know you are in for a real treat with all the inspiration shared by the Design crew this week.

CTC162

I went for something a little different this time. This week, I was inspired by one of the products in particular that make up this suite. It’s one of those ones where the photo in the catalogue doesn’t do it justice. It’s the cute little Embellishment kit.

If you have followed my blog for a while, you’ll know I just love these kits. I feel like I’m breaking open a block of chocolate when I open these kits – they give me the same feeling of anticipation of of discovering the goodies inside!

RosePacker18-06c

The kit is made up of printed die cut elements, all featuring silver foil print. There are even silver foil print on vellum and these are just spectacular. Plus the pack has some thin striped silver washi tape, white mini clothes pegs, gorgeous little tassels with silver tips and lovely scallop edge velvet trim.

So much to work with, all of these items inspired me to create this…

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Sweet Soiree, Memories and More, Sale-a-bration

Here I teamed them up with one of the card from the Sweet Soiree Memories and More card pack. These are a Sale-a-bration exclusive item that you can choose for FREE with every $90 purchase.

I wrapped some ribbon around the card before mounting it onto some Bermuda Bay cardstock. This ribbon, is a 3-pack of Shimmer Ribbon in Bermuda Bay, Basic Gray and Calypso coral. And another Sale-a-bration exclusive item. So many great things on offer this year!

I picked out the die cut elements I wanted to work with and arranged them on the card font. Using glue dots to adhere the vellum pieces behind and dimensions to fix on the top flower element. Finishing off with a bow to sit nicely in front.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Sweet Soiree, Memories and More, Sale-a-bration

I adhered this onto Whisper White thick cardstock base. It needed just something else, so picking out the Berry Burst in the flowers, I drew a freehand border around the cardbase edge.

There is so much to work with in this kit, I’m already planning my next blog post…

Next up in the hop is the amazing Rebecca Scurr…

So what is Brushos?

If you’re a social media/blog hopper, you must be wondering what all this talk about Brusho’s is?

It’s a colouring tool new to the Stampin’ Up! range. These are in the form of crystal powder which, when mixed with water, gives your projects the most radiant colour.

The thing with Brushos is, there are different ways to mixed them with water which gives you the most amazing effects. This is where the magic happens, as no two projects will turn out exactly the same – similar maybe – but not the same. It’s just so much fun.

So I will cover off different ways you can play with Brusho’s with the different projects I create in the coming weeks/months. But today, I will talk you through how I created this project….

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Brushos, Five for all

It was my first play with Brusho’s colour crystal powders. The Stampin’ Up! ones come as a pack of 5 colours – Brilliant Red, Gamboge, Yellow, Moss Green and Prussian Blue. I know what you are thinking… “these are not Stampin’ Up! colours!” and you’re right, they are not. They are the most similar in the Brusho’s range to Stampin’ Up!’s and when mixed with water you can vary the strength of the colour to match them as well, if you really needed to. But I think they work well as they come.

So how I created this was quite simple really and fun. Using shimmery white cardstock, I sprayed one side with some water using a Stampin’ Spritzer bottle, then flipped it over. Water and paper really don’t like each other much so it started to curly. But that’s okay, as I then sprayed the other side with a bit more water, and it started to uncurl. This second side is the side I worked with. Using my fingers, I spread the water out, to cover the paper as a base layer and then sprinkled Brilliant Red and Gamboge over the watered paper. You will see the powder instantly dissolved and begin to colour the paper. I sprayed some more water over the top, which pushed the sprinkled powder in different directions, creating an amazing fireworks display over my cardstock.

Next I used my Aqua painter to spread out and mix the powders. That gave me a base colour across the page. The strength varied as the water pooled in different placed. I sprinkled a little more powder over the top and left those in dots (rather than mixing in). These dissolved slightly, mixing in a little, but remained as flecks, giving a different look across my page. I let this dry for several hours before completing the rest of my card.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Brushos, Five for all

I trimmed down the coloured card to the size I wanted, adhered this to my Real Red cardbase. The stamp set I used here, is one of my favourites. It’s called Five for All and is a sentiment only stamp set, designed to work on their own or go with other graphic elements from other sets. The sentiments are quite witty too – my kind of humor!  The one I used here, suited the recipient of this card, as there was a funny post on Facebook about returning to “pretend she’s in her 20’s” after her birthday. PERFECT stamp!

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Brushos, Five for all

I framed this with a scallop circle from the Layering Circled framelit sets in real red cardstock and zig-zagged some stitched edge ribbon, in Pumpkin Pie, beneath it. Topped it with some Lemon Lime Twist ombre ribbon for contrast. I finished it off with two balloons from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. I stamped them in Tranquil Tide on Lemon Lime Twist cardstock.

Stay tuned for more of my Brusho’s playtime soon.

CTC161 – Sale-a-bration

CTC-BlogBanner

What a week, I’ve been busy creating with lots of new toys this week in prep for upcoming events. Including this one, our second blog hop for Caseing the Catty.

Welcome if you are starting here with me or if you have joined me from the lovely Angela. This week, we are celebrating Sale-a-bration time. Which is my favourite promotion on the Stampin’ Up! calendar. There are freebie products for those who shop, host or join during these few months. More info on this is here.

CTC161

This week, I started playing with Epic Celebrations. (I must take a minute to thank to my Facebook voters – Epic Celebrations was the initial front runner in my vote request, so I created with that one. But Lots of Lavender did come out in front in the end.  Never fear, I will use that one next!)

As I was creating this first card, I had an idea for a second one, so today I have two card to share with you.

RosePacker18-03a

First up, this one… a quirky little spin on these cute converse style runners.

I had the idea to make one pair stand out of a pile. So using the trusty masking technique, I created this pile of runners. I use my Stampin’ Write markers to colour the Real Red pair and Stampin’ Blends in Light Smokey Slate to colour the rest.

What I discovered, was the different looks you can achieve when colouring with the two different types of markers. Blends gives you a much smoother look as the alcohol allows the colour to spread evenly. Whereas, using markers the ink only goes where you apply it, allowing you to get achieve a rougher much more inconsistent look. Which is not a bad thing when you want that grungy appearance. The Epic Celebration stamps has a style of artwork that lends itself to that colouring style.

For the sentiment – here I used the ever amazing Stamparatus to create a custom sentiment. The gray words are from one sentiment in the Mixed Drinks stamp set, but I only used parts of it. And the Party is from Tabs for Everything stamp set.

I was able to place the stamps in position, use my leaf on the Stamparatus to pick up the stamp. Ink up and stamp in place. Awesome!

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Epic Celebrations, Sale-a-bration

I finished off the sentiment with some Foil printed Acetate, mini sequin trim and some gorgeous Shimmer ribbon in Basic Gray – another Sale-a-bration exclusive item and a gorgeous little Tutti Fruity sequin.

While making the first card, I had an idea for this second card.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Epic Celebrations, Sale-a-bration

This sentiment is from the new In The Trees stamp set and I thought it would make a fun and quirky Valentines day card. Particularly if you are like me and my DH – not huge on Valentines Day. A less lovey dovey feel to a card is more our style.

RosePacker18-04b

Colour INKspiration – CI25

colourinkspiration-banner

Thank you for joining me and the Colour INKspiration team on this first hop for 2018. I’m sure you will enjoy this one… it’s a beauty, with great colour combination and great inspiration from the team to get your ideas flowing.

So to start us off this year, we have an awesome and striking combination put together by my wonderful stamping friend Tricia – it’s Night of Navy, Lemon Lime Twist and Whisper White.

CI25-100117

Here is my card, using the gorgeous new Sale-a-bration stamp set – Beautiful Peacock.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Beautiful Peacock, Sale-a-bration

I have added some silver foil to go with this colour combination, which I think add just the right amount of bling.

For this card, I pulled out my brand spanking new Stamparatus, I knew I wanted to make a few of these cards, using the Stamparatus made it so much easier and quicker to line up my main element.

Starting with my Peacock, stamped him and punched him with one of the squares from the Stitched Shapes framelit. I framed this square with some silver foil, to reveal a small silver frame.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Beautiful Peacock, Sale-a-bration

I used this element to help position where I wanted those gorgeous leafy circles on the right side. I stamped two in place (free hand) with Night of Navy ink on Lemon Lime Twist cardstock. Love these colours together. I wrapped some Silver ribbon around the Lime cardstock.

Once happy with these main elements, I began creating the card from the base up. Night of Navy cardstock for the base, a metallic foil doily in silver in the bottom right corner topped with the stamped Lemon Lime Twist cardstock piece. All adhere flat with Multipurpose liquid glue.

Next I used some dimensions to stick on my Peacock element and finished him off with some Rhinestone Jewels on his fanned feathers. I used a glue dot to adhere the tiny silver bow in the left corner.

I finished off the front of my card with a couple of tiny stamped flowers dotted around the main element. Plus a coordinated envelope stamped with my Stamparatus.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Beautiful Peacock, Sale-a-bration

I decided not to include a sentiment on the front, thus allowing this card to be used for multiple occasions. Instead opting to decorate the inside and theme that for the purpose of the occasion. Here is the birthday one. Again, I used Mr Peacock and here, he is sitting on of the specialty metallic washi tape from the Myths and Magic suite.

The second card I made up, was a different theme. I have only just posted that so the receiver is yet to get it. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but I’m sure she will love it and get a laugh too! 😊

Next up in the hop, is the talented Nicole Wilson.

CTC160 – Picture Perfect Party

CTC-BlogBanner

Welcome to 2018 with the Caseing The Catty Crew. I’m sure you will enjoy this blog hop as the team and I  kick off with the new Occasions catalogue.

We are starting at the beginning of the catalogue Pages 4 to 9, with the Picture Perfect Party Suite.

CTC160

Today I have taken inspiration from the cute little Peekaboo Peach box at the back of the main image. This one…

Occ18_p004a

I have adapted it to work on the front of a card with the Birthday Wishes For You stamp set. I love this little stamp set and I was a little worried it was going to get left behind. It’s such a great stamp with big bold letters and its outline style is great for all our wondering colouring tools.

Here I have broken down the project in the image to: a Peekaboo peach cardstock base; a layer of the Picture Perfect Party 6×6” paper stack; Whisper white cardstock with the sentiment and candles printed on top; and behind that is the Lemon Lime Twist flags poking out the sides.

As you can see, I have adapted those elements to form the main features of my birthday card design.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Picture Perfect Birthday, Birthday Wishes for you

There are a couple of exceptions though – my order of the paper stack hadn’t arrived yet, but lucky enough the stamp set has a number of elements I could make my own creation with. Here I have stamped a couple of the stamps in several of the coordinating colours to fill that space. There are so many cute little stamps in the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set, allowing you to create a range of decorative elements, here I have just stamped one of them on the background card layer.

I also added some Berry Burst (favourite InColour just now!) cardstock framing the main sentiment, to help echo that colour. In the catalogue image, the box contains Ready Shreddie in Berry Burst, which serves the purpose of echoing the colour, but the new Ready Shreddie wasn’t quite going to work on my card. (Hmmmm… or will it! I have just had an idea… you will have to stay tuned!)

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up! Picture Perfect Birthday, Birthday Wishes for you

As ribbon adds a lovely texture, I added a touch behind my Lemon Lime Twist flag. It’s the new Berry Burst metallic edge ribbon. Like so many demonstrators and customers alike, I was dying to get my hands on that gorgeous Paper Ribbon in that suite, which was used in the decoration in the left corner of the box. I was quite disappointed to learn of manufacturing issues which led to Stampin’ Up! making the tough decision to remove it from the supply. Meaning this product will not be available to us to order at all – waaa ☹.

I have kept the candles and flames stamped over the sentiment and added some Wink of Stella to the birthday letters – not that I have ever been able to photograph how beautifully sparkly that is! To finish off I accented the Happy flag, stamping it in black ink on peach cardstock, fussing cutting it and using some mini dimensionals to pop it up.

Next up in the hop is Rachel Palmieri.

CTC-Next

Hop on through and when done we love to see how you have been inspired by these pages of the catalogue. You can create anything – use a card design with other products, or use these products if you have them, maybe it’s the colours that have inspired you. What ever it is, we’d love to see your creation – load them up to our Facebook challenge group by next 6pm Sunday, the 14th.
