CTC235 – Case the card on page 159

CTC-BlogBanner

Another really cool Case from the team here at Caseing The Catty. Welcome if you are joining me here or if you have hopped over from Rebecca. This weeks case is using the card sketch on page 159…

CTC235

And here is how I interpreted it…

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Come Sail Away, Sailing Home Stamp set, Smooth Sailing dies

Like all card sketches I case, I first break down the elements… cardbase, designer paper layer, Whisper White layer, decorative element on the top left.

Using the Sail Away suite, I first chose the piece of designer paper I wanted to use… here I went with the gray coral design. This made choosing the rest of my colour palette easier. I decided to stick with mostly black and white and just used the Mint Macaron as a pop of colour.

What I really like about the stamp set, is how clever the Stampin’ Up! stamp designers are. In this set, they have designed two sail boats for us to use. They are similar in style, but different in size and direction. This allows us to create realistic scenes if we wanted to.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Come Sail Away, Sailing Home Stamp set, Smooth Sailing dies

On my card, I have kept things simple, but used basic art principles… objects in the distance appear light and smaller and objects closer to us are larger and more vivid. So on my card, the smaller boat is stamped higher in Smokey Slate to give the appearance of being further away and the larger boat is stamped lower and in Basic Gray for a closer feel.

I finished off the card with a sentiment framed with a little Mint cardstock and the ships wheel trinket with a little of the Mint ribbon behind.

Next up in the hop is the amazing Michelle Strazds.

Colour INKspiration – CI58

So good to be back hopping with the amazing team from the Colour INKspiration… and what a great colour combination too – thanks Kelly! Welcome if you have hopped over from Rachel or if you are joining me here. This colour combination is sure to inspire… Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Gold and Blushing Bride.

CI58

I went with making a card and using the every popular and gorgeous new Good Morning Magnolia.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Band Together, Good Morning Magnolia, Woven Heirlooms

I also couldn’t leave the Detailed Band die set alone again this time either. They are just toooooo goooood. I’m sure my class girls are rubbing their hands, knowing they will be using this set soon enough!!

Here I used the largest of the dies and cut it out of Gold Foil. I used my element to help position my stamping. I went with the smaller flower in the Magnolia set, I love the bud look. Here I stamped two in Crumb Cake ink and lightly coloured them in Blushing Bride ink using a blender pen.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Band Together, Good Morning Magnolia, Woven Heirlooms

The sentiment came from the Woven Heirlooms stamp set and I punched this using the frame from the same die set, it’s perfectly sized to coordinate of course. I wrapped the belly band tabs around the Whisper White layer and adhered it to my card base.

Keeping the card simple, I finished off with few Metallic Pearls in Gold.

Next up in the hop is the incredibly talented Denita.

CTC234 – Case Pressed Petals DSP

CTC-BlogBanner

Welcome back to another week of Caseing the Catty blop hop and challenge, welcome if you are joining me here or have hopped over from Tina.

As you can see, it’s another really cool topic for our CASE this wee. This week, the case is a combination challenge… but it’s a pretty easy one. So we are Casing the colours from the Pressed Petals Specialty Designer Paper, this means using any of these colours: Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Merry Merlot, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, Pear Pizzazz, Rococo Rose, Soft Suede, Very Vanilla. The second part of the challenge is to use inspiration from the projects featured on pages 73 to 74 of the catalogue.

CTC234

So here is what I came up with… a card and tag combination:

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Pressed Petals, Woven Heimlooms stamp set, Washi tape

The colours I have used are Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzazz, Rococo Rose and Very Vanilla. The pop of Merry Merlot comes from the Pressed Petals Washi tape.

My inspiration came from the pink tag in the left image and the card on the right:

The tag was completely different in layout, but what really captured and inspired me was the tag top… I love how the sample uses the Story Label punch!! I thought that was an awesome idea! Here I trimmed my cardstock to the width of the punch, about 58mm, and wiggled my cardstock in to one edge, so it only punched the one side of the cardstock.

I also really love creating vintage style projects…. It means, if you mess up, you can cover it up pretty easily with more ink and you don’t need to be precise with anything. Here, I have teamed up my projects with the Woven Heirloom stamp set, which is just perfect for this style theme.

Plus, I just couldn’t wait to play with those washi tape petals, so clever in design and so easy to put together and create an element to go on any project. Here I created two to feature on a matching card.

Anyway next up on the hop is Rachel Palmieri.

CTC233 – Case a layout

CTC-BlogBanner

I’m so excited to be back hopping along with some of my stamping friends here at Caseing The Catty. Life has been busy to say the least so I’m really excited to be creating with new toys from the 2019-2020 Annual catalogue.

CTC233

Hey… did you notice the theme of today’s CASE? A bit different huh? Yep, we thought we’d shake things up a little and add a twist to some of the inspirations we draw from from the catalogue. So this week we are looking at the projects featured on page 36 of the Annual catalogue. It’s the one that showcases the Magnolia Lane Suite of products and there are some lovely projects on that page.

Today, I decided to use the card that is featured in Mossy Meadow on the top left. When ever I like a card design and I want to CASE it, I first break down all the elements – in this case there is the Cardbase, an embossed layer and then a cluster of elements: some thread, a stamped and punched layer, ribbon, the flower element and then sentiment on top; the whole card is then finished off with some metallic pearls.

That’s kind of how I approached my card…

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Band Together, Mosaic, Noble Peacock

I used Thick Whisper White for my card base and Whisper White cardstock that I embossed with the new Mosaic 3D embossing folder.

For my cluster arrangement, I decided to work with the new Band Together bundle … I think I’m going to have some fun with this bundle!! I started with punching one of the dies out of some of the gorgeous Noble Peacock foil pack – here I used Pretty Peacock.

These dies are really interesting as they have tabs on the sides so that they can wrap around a layer and tuck beneath or they can work like a belly band. Here I snipped off the bands, following the pattern to complete it as it’s own stand alone element.

I punched a second one out from Whisper White cardstock and used the inner piece to layer for the sentiment. I added a strip of snail adhesive to the back of the sentiment, and adhered some silver thread and set that aside. Using my foil element, I was able to position the ribbon first, then adhere the sentiment first and foil over the stop, so the thread is behind everything.

I added a couple of the leaf elements from the same die set to the top left and finished off with some silver pearls. I love how the foil element just pops off the card against the neutral tones of the other elements.

I’m sure I’ll be back with more from this gorgeous set, but right now next up on the hop is the amazing Lauren Meiklejohn.
