Are you a Halloween person? Do you celebrate with costumes and lollies? Or are you like me…. just like all the trimming around the event? Down Under here in Australia, we don’t officially celebrate Halloween. In recent years it has gathered momentum, largely due to retailers doing their best to promote the event in an effort to lift sales. Either way, it does seem fun and Stampin’ Up! always has their section of Halloween goodies to create with.
The Halloween section is where the Casing The Catty crew are drawing inspiration from in this hop. Welcome if you are joining me here, or if you have hopped over from Judy.

I do love the Halloween section of Stampin’ Up!’s catalogue, it’s not so much the stamps that attract me but more all the other goodies that come with that theme, like the black glimmer paper, the spider web embossing folder and my personal favourite – those gorgeous Iridescent Pearls!!
There are loads of amazing ideas in this section too and I love the big focus on packaging gifts too. My inspiration came from this card…

It was the background that captured me on this occasion and the sponging technique used. Here is the card I created:

Teaming up a couple of different yellows in the colour range, I started with a base card in Bumblebee and overlaid a layer of So Saffron cardstock which I sponged in Mango Melody ink. Then I topped it off with some elements in Black.
So the background came together like this…. I laid out my So Saffron cardstock on some grid paper. I did this largely because I wasn’t going to sit there measuring out evenly spaced wedges – where’s the fun in that! So I used my grid paper for spacing.

I did mark the centre of my card as a starting point. Then I used Post It notes to mark the lines for sponging. I used the grid squares to count roughly even spaces. It’s not perfect, but it was fun and I think it still come up a treat!
My sentiment is from the Ridiculously Awesome stamp set and features big bold statement style sentiments and a few little decorative image stamps.

Heat embossing the sentiment using White powder on Black cardstock gives a dramatic and bold look. I die cut it out using one of the cute frames from the Hippo & Friends dies. I added a couple of those images stamped in Memento Black ink and tied off a ribbon around the centre. I finished off with some of those gorgeous iridescent pearls. I just love how they flicker with different colours like a mirror in the sunshine.
Next up in the hop is amazing Sandra Collett.

After you’ve enjoyed the awesome hop with the team, I’m looking forward to seeing your CASE over in our challenge group. Be sure to load up your creation by 7pm next Sunday night, October 18th.

Until next time… Stamp Creatively,

Great sponging – I actually thought it was DSP that I had missed in a catalogue! Looks great, and the black and yellow colour combo is a total winner
