It’s been a blast…

A Birthday Blast that is… which is another one of my favourite bundles retiring at this end of this month. It really does feel like we just got this set but then… it also feel like we celebrated New Years last week too.

I have used this bundle quite a few times, it’s a really great set to make awesome cards for men folk. Even using part of the Star Blast edgelit as an element is great. The options are endless.

So this is my latest creation with this awesome set.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Birthday Blast, Star Blast thinlit

This was one of my class projects recently, where we celebrated the retiring list and this card features a number of those products.

I love the colour combination in the Sweet Treats suite – Pool Party, Watermelon Wonder (retiring), Peekaboo Peach, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip and Whisper White. I had the Tasty Treats Specialty DSP and also some packs of those cute little Sprinkles Embellishments… and this is where I started.

The embellishments just screamed shaker card to me, so I played with a few shapes but settled on the star to reflect the stars in the burst edgelit dies. Plus those amazing Star Framelits are retiring too. With overlaying the Start Burst edgelit I worked out what size my sharker star needed to be so the space balanced nicely. I decided some silver foil for the burst would set it off.

The sentiment came from Balloon Adventures set, another retiring favourite. I stamped the banner and the sentiment in Watermelon Wonder ink then fussy cut the banner to adhere over the top of a punched star, also in Watermelon Wonder cardstock. These sat over the top of the silver foil star blast over the shaker.

I hope this project has inspired your next project.

Celebrations a plenty – CYCI#145

Our next colour challenge over at Can You Case It? features some colours that I just love together – blue, purple, silver and white.

Can You Case It? CYCI #145

I needed some celebratory cards this week and what better combination than Elegant Eggplant and Silver. I love them together and they usually remind me of times of celebration.

Here is my card.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses. Stampin' Up!, Birthday Blast

The lovely large star burst stamp from the Birthday Blast stamp set is back and here I’ve stamped it twice, rotating my card so that they sit upside down from each other making this lovely soft background. I added some silver detailing using a metallic foil doiley beneath the sentiment and those stars… well, remember my last card – the 40th birthday one with the star blast edgelit die? Those stars are the little pop outs from that die and I’ve used them up here.

purple,

I’ve made two different cards using this design. The sentiments are different to cater for the purposes I need. The “celebrate you” comes from the same stamp set the background stamp – Birthday Blast. The “welcome” comes from another set called Vertical Garden. I just love the two sentiments in that set and I love the way they are created – the set has two sentiments, and both have two parts to them – one is the sentiment as you see below in purple but then it also has a shadow stamp to match making it super easy to create a drop shadow. So clever.

Birthday Blast

We celebrated a big birthday in our extended family this weekend. It’s always great when these events come up as they always call for a custom creation.

This one was also for a guy… just my cup of tea! Love making card for our men folk. Here is what I came up with.

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Birthday Blast

Of course, with these kinds of birthdays you have to rub it in a little. For the sentiment, instead of a traditional Happy birthday, I opted for this… Big 4 0. The “Big” is from the Birthday Bright stamp set, which is new in the Occasions Catalogue. (The stamp set is also bundled together with this new card and tag kit… but more about that later!)

The Happy Birthday sentiment went on the inside along with another sentiment, which again, had a little dig at getting older! It has to be done sometimes doesn’t it?! Both of these sentiments were from the Birthday Banners stamp set.

I wanted the 40 to still be visible, so I thought vellum would do the trick. This particular sentiment, being thick lettered, enabled me to adhere using some strategically placed glue dots. I used quite a few, as I rolled them and stretched them to fit into the shapes of the letters. I don’t think it’s going anywhere!

I just love how the Stars Blast thinlits look in Silver foil. I think they add a level of drama and movement in their design, which is great.

The envelope was decorated with that lovely big stamp from the coordinating Birthday Blast stamp set.

How I made this:

  • Card base is standard portrait base – 148mm x 210mm, scored and folded in half (at 105mm) to form a standard A6 card. The colour is Basic Black
  • Punching two sets of the Star Blast thinlit dies from silver foil, I fixed these to the back of a strip of cardstock sized at 105mm x 40mm. The colour is Bermuda Bay.
    • The trick here was adhering the elements so they fit on the cardfront. To do this I positioned the first star blast (no adhesive on this piece yet) and applied Tombow Multi Purpose Liquid glue to the back of the strip of Bermuda Bay in a thin line and stuck that to the star blast piece. I repeated the process with the second star blast, creating one piece.
  • I applied Tombow adhesive to this back of the intricate pieces and the cardstock strip and fixed it in place on my cardfront.
  • Next I created the top element by first punching a circle from the Layering Circles collection framelits from silver foil.
  • I punched a second circle in the next size down using the same circle die collection. The colour is Bermuda Bay.
  • I adhered this to the silver circle with Tombow.
  • The numbers are punched using the Large Number framelits. The colour is Basic Black. I adhered them with Tombow adhesive.
  • I cut a piece of vellum 90mm x 25 mm and manually cut flag ends.
  • I used Basic Black archival ink to stamp the “Big” sentiment onto vellum.
  • I used glue dots to adhere the vellum flag to the circles.
  • I used Dimensionals to the whole circle element piece to the cardfront.
  • I stamped the envelope with the large stamp from the Birthday Blast stamp set. The colour is Bermuda Bay.
  • Inside I cut a piece of Whisper white cardstock to 100mm x 142mm and adhere this with snail adhesive.
  • I stamped the top sentiment first in Bermuda Bay ink and the Happy Birthday in the Basic Black archival.

Don’t they look yummy enough to eat!

Here is my INKspiration:

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Carousel Birthday, Birthday blast

Of the six colours, I focussed on three – Peekaboo Peach, Mint Macaron and Blushing Bride.

This card features those adorable carousel horses. They are from the Carousel Birthday stamp set, new in the Occasions Catalogue. I loved them the minute I saw them. I think they just instantly transport you back your childhood dreams of riding Unicorns and having ponies. There is just something magical about them, don’t you think?

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Carousel Birthday, Birthday blast

Also featured is that lovely large stamp the from Birthday Blast stamp set, I’ve used in the background. Those little star accent are punched out using the coordinating Star Blast edgelit. This is the negative space from the edgelit detail.

So now it’s your turn… create a project and upload it to the facebook group using these wonderful colours. Entries close Monday, 23 January (AEDT) at 7pm.

So next in line to share some more INKspiration is the very talented Jackie Noble.
