Get the most from your dies

I thought I’d share with you a couple of little projects, I have been working on lately. These are using Stampin’ Up! thinlit dies, but just not to create a die cut element for use on a card or scrap page.

I’ve been playing with the Springtime Impressions thinlit dies set, which has three thinlit dies. It coordinates with the Abstract Impressions stamp set in the Garden Impressions Suite of products.

Today, I’m focussing on the dies, and here I have teamed up the Butterfly die with some Shrink Plastic to make some fun charms.

They were pretty easy to make and lots of fun. Little Miss 3 thought it was just magic, the way that plastic curled, shrunk and flattened back out. If I could have videod her I would have, her amazement was priceless, but I didn’t was to burn the plastic!

I coloured my shrink plastic with Stampin’ Blends, which are Stampin’ Up! alcohol markers. There are a range of colours available now and more new colours coming very soon. I scribbled colour on to my plastic, punched my shape, shrunk them, added some sparkle with my Wink of Stella brush and popped them on a chain. Take a look….

In this die set is also an amazing flower arrangement die. It’s just gorgeous and works beautifully to adorn the half a card. You can punch it out and coloured it up to adhere straight on, or you can trim out individual shapes to arrange on a smaller project.

Here I have teamed it up with the Embossing Mats to create a subtle texture to my card base instead. The embossed pattern create a lovely subtle look without being overpowering, which is really easy to do when dies are really big like this one is.

Using it this way, dresses up a card base that could otherwise be plain, without the detail taking over.

I’m really enjoying creating something a little different with my Stampin’ Up! craft supplies. I think it’s really important to get the most out of each product and these are just a few ideas to keep your crafting fresh and projects fun and different.

It’s Caseing The Catty time… Welcome if you are starting this weeks hop here with me, or if you have joined me from Bronwyn.

I love looking through the catalogue, the inspiration inside those pages are just amazing. Today, my inspiration came from this card on page 28, with the bike.

I have recreated the elements that make up this card design with a different set. I think it’s a great little quick fix – when you are short on time.

Here I have kept the flag element in the top right with the sentiment and the layering piece. I just changed up the theme from the bike to a jigsaw puzzle. Here I used the large puzzle die but instead of cutting out all those pieces, I used the die as texture, which I was able to create with the embossing platform for my Big Shot. It has given a new lease of life to all our dies!

I used my blade knife to cut out one piece of the puzzle – as I thought that went perfectly with the sentiment. With the sentiment being heart shaped, it also helped me decide on Lovely Lipstick as the colour, so I popped a piece of Lovely Lipstick behind the missing piece to coordinate.

Here I layered the Blueberry Bushel jigsaw puzzle on some Whisper White and then onto the Pool Party base. I created the flag in Pool Party and tied some Lovely Lipstick ribbon in a knot around the top. I fussy cut the heart-shaped sentiment out and adhered it on.

Next up in the hop, is the amazing Rebecca Scurr.
